My Town: Bathurst map

BCL's own columnist, Leo Roving Reporter, has come up with an original way of promoting the must-see sights of Bathurst to locals and visitors alike. Leo has created a hand drawn map of Bathurst, cleverly incorporating items and locations of interest that have all previously featured in his weekly column.

Talking about his "My Town: Bathurst" map he said "It's good, I like it - I tried my best and I think it turned out good." The A4 artwork, which is available for purchase, is printed on art paper, can be framed or unframed and all pieces have been individually coloured and signed by Leo.

BCL has one framed artwork to give away to the first reader who brings in a copy of one of Leo's columns featured on the "My Town: Bathurst" map.

Hi people, it's Leo here. Today I'm going to talk about our recent stop at Sofala. While we were on our way to Mudgee, we stopped at the Joyce Pearce Memorial Park. In the middle of it, there was a long bridge. the bridge used to go over the little river there but a flood destroyed it. Years, years later a farmer found some of the remains of the bridge and then everybody helped to find the rest of the remains and once they found them, rebuilt it and plopped right in the middle of the Joyce Pearce Memorial Park. Opposite the old bridge is an engine from a coal mine and a big metal strip with a big metal bucket on it - to scoop up the dirt. So, then we got on our way and I really enjoyed our stop. I hope we stop there again. The end.

Hi people, it's Leo here. Today I'm going to talk about swimming. Every Wednesday and Friday I go to the pool for swimming training and sometimes it is very hard. My coaches are Emily and Lenny. Sometimes I don't want to go swimming training but I have to and sometimes it's fun but mainly it's tiring and hard work but I guess it is all about hard work. Emily and Lenny have lots of techniques to teach and I really enjoy learning off them. I don't really like going to swimming carnivals, it's all right going to the carnivals but I do get very nervous when I am at them. The best bit about swimming is trying hard.

Hi people, it's Leo here. Today I'm going to talk about my friend Sam's dad who sells miniature train parts and has......um, I think four steam trains. One day he bought one into school to show the class. It was exactly like a real steam train and it could even work like a real steam train. In class, we are doing a tea and sugar train project. The tea and sugar train was a train that delivered food to people in the desert. And every year is also brought Santa along too. Me and my friend Sam did the the important parts of the tea and sugar train drawing - then we drew another engine to help push the tea and sugar train and all it's carriages to wherever it is going. Sam did the steam engine at the front and I did the coal pit. The coal pit is the carriage that holds all the coal for the steam train. Then, together, Sam and I did the other engine which was a diesel engine for the train. When Sam's dad brought in his epic model train to school I learnt something that day: the engine was nearly 1m long and 20cm wide. I hope Sam's dad brings in a model train again.

Lego sets I really, really, really want are: Lego planes, Lego trains, Lego ships and Lego cars. When I say Lego, I mean Lego trucks and cars and racing cars and stuff like that. I guess any Lego sets are fine. I also like miniature stuff and I watch that stuff online but I'm talking about Lego today...anyway, I like watching Lego video clips they are the best.

This is what I give this building in a rating out of ten = 2 out of 10; because it wasn't very good. After going around Mount Panorama twice we went to this new cafe. It was good, but I have been to better cafes. It was a bit small and the tables were a bit wobbly but besides that I had a great meal. And then we had until the end of the week to bring our material in for our rat house. People brought in cardboard boxes, juice containers, egg cartons: stuff that we thought might come in handy while we were building our rat houses. Sam and I built a double story house - I had the top and Sam had the bottom. The next season was spring. in his paintings, he had light colours this time - he used green and blue and yellow. The last season was summer - in one of his paintings he painted a self portrait. Hi people it's Leo here. Today we are celebrating my 100th column. Whoo hoo, yay..... thank you, thank you...... you are so kind......but it will just like my regular column. I do have something to talk about not just 'whoo hoo and yay'. Do you like boats...I do! I have probably said that 100 times, right? Well I am in Sydney at a hotel and I am just looking out the window and what do I see? Two very nice old boats - like pirate ships. And a little army ship and a big destroyer called The Vampire, Number 11. There is also also a small red ship like a mini red lighthouse that floats. They are all my favourite boats actually because I like boats. Do you remember when I told you about my travels to see The Victory? And the guard that let me pull the trigger on the cannon that was used in the battle of Waterloo that was used by a real gunner a long, long time ago? That was fantastic. That's all for today, I will see when I do my 101th column.

Until next time

Hi people, it's Leo here. Today we are talking about how to make it snow. First you need to get a small piece of cardboard just the size of rectangular book. Then you draw a street on the cardboard, maybe some footpaths too. Then you get some kebab sticks  - you get the flat end, not the pointy end and bend it making sure it doesn't break, that it just bends. You stab it into the side or the middle of the road  and you have a street lamp. Get your miniature cars and put them on the right side of the road, just parked. Now get some table salt and sprinkle it over the cars, over the road, over the side of the road and then you have a street that has been snowed on. Viola! The end.

Hi people it's Leo here. Today I will be presenting my speech I wrote for the CWA speech competition - anyhow, this is how it goes:

If I were a cheetah
I’ll run and run some more
I’ll run over hills, I’ll run through rivers, I’ll run over wide open plains
Then I’ll eventually get tired and lie down to rest.
But I won’t be able to cope with the bugs flying around my head.

If I were a pilot I’d fly people to Australia, Indonesia, England, Africa
But I won’t cope flying over the deep, deep blue sea
I’d rather fly over land but as a pilot I’d have to fly over both.

If I were a policeman I’d drive around in a blue and white car with sirens going “whee wahh, whee wahh”. I could be one of those special policemen that people don’t know are policeman. But I don’t think they’ll let me use a gun at my age.

But I’m me
I’m Leo Klonis
and I like me

That's all folks......

Hi people, it's Leo here. Today we are talking about bridges in Bathurst. My favourite bridge is the one that goes over the railway lines coming in and going out from South Bathurst. I remember a long time ago that I saw people painting it with new silver paint. They were workers. I think the bridge was very rusty before that. I like the bridge because it has a good building technique - it sort of looks like the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The lines holding the sides up are similar- like the big upside smile. It carries cars just like the Harbour Bridge and it is a similar grey colour. I like standing on the bridge and the feeling of the move and rumble when cars go past and I also like watching trains go underneath. Which is your favourite bridge?
